Native Bee and Skipper 6/3/17

This morning was beautiful.  It got hot, though not bad, later in the afternoon.  I was able to get the little native bee that protects the milkweed.  These are a megachiles (leafcutting) type of bee and chase other insects away as well as grapple with honeybees to try and drive them off of their beloved milkweed.  The skipper is a different type than yesterday’s.

Milkweed and Friends 6/1/17

Today was overcast. I was able to get some photos of my milkweed with a honeybee, a couple of different native bees, and you can even see an ant here and there if you look closely.  The stripey bee we saw in the Cranefly and Native Bee 5/31 post.  As I mentioned then, this bee loves milkweed and was seen today trying to chase off the dark honeybee seen below.  The honeybee was not deterred. The teeny tiny bee was awesome.

Little Mountain Pass 5-24-17

I was graced to be able to have a quick visit to a canyon close to home, Emigration  Canyon.  Here is Little Dell Reservoir from Little Mountain Pass (all of today’s photos are in Little Mountain Pass).
The wind was blowing fiercely and I only had 2 good photos of these grasses with Little Dell in the background.
Clouds were moving across the sky leading to stormy clouds, brief rain, and high wind.  When I got back into the valley I heard from some folks about their misadventures in gusty winds that were blowing up to 75 mph.  I have shots from blue sky and clouds to stormy skies.  The ant on the spent blossom of an unfamiliar mountain shrub is pretty awesome (as I didn’t think I had a good ant photo).

Sunset Study 5-22-17

This lovely evergreen lives in my neighborhood.  Today was nice with times of sun and partly cloudy.

Fallen Blossoms – 5-16-17

Today has been overcast with a little rain.  The sun peeped out for a few moments this morning and, given the nature of the weather where I live, may make more appearances before setting this evening.  The snowball bushes are dropping their blossoms and my neighbor’s ornamental flowering fruit tree (cherry?) lost the last few pink flowers that it had been holding on to.DSC08205 nice white sm sig

Happy Mother’s Day 5-14-17

DSC08018 5:14:17 honeybee 8x6 text shadow jpgI hope you are having or had a most beautiful Mother’s Day.  Mine was lovely.  The sun, flowers, bees, and other creatures came out to play in the yard.
DSC07985 5:14:17 snowball small sig 2017 jpgI think that this fuzzy fly is a member of Genus Lordotus.  I have been teasingly calling it a teddy bear fly but it looks like it might actually be a type of bee-fly.

Yes, I Will Be Your Valentine 2/14/17

small-valentine-2017-jpg-sigValentine’s morning is frosty and clear
So clear I  see my breath,
Hear frozen cracklings underfoot,
While watching you scrape the icy veil,
Clearing the windows for a clean view,
Allowing you to make it safely to work.

I return to warmth and furry friends
Already missing you.
I see the handmade gift you made me,
A cardboard heart with a question and words of love.

The sun shines on deep red roses
In an elegant vase bought years ago.
I imagine the vase rejoicing
As it has long sat empty and now
It is serving beauty once again.
With your gifts and question
You spoke of loving feelings, tender intentions,
And a wish that we might put our feet on a spiritual path
That deepens loving connection.

This evening we will celebrate
With other couples dedicated
To each other and their coupleships.

We will share with each other,
Working on healthy communication, true intimacy,
And ways to deepen our bonds together,
A wonder filled opportunity.

I spoke my answer to your question
And will now write it here, Beloved Husband.
Yes, I will be your valentine.

With gratitude in my heart
I can say I have loved you from the beginning
And continue to love you in the present.

My prayers are that we take
A spiritual journey together,
Deepening our compassion, kindness, love,
And feelings of gratitude for all we have,
Including each other.

Happy Valentine’s Day
From your beloved wife, Raven!

May your Valentine’s Day be filled with gratitude, compassion, love, and kindness.
