Inner Iris 6-18-17

Today it was quite chilly with brief periods of sun. The sunlight allowed me to take today’s photos.  I have found that entire white iris are challenging for me to photograph, so I was pleased and grateful to capture portraits of these beauties before they are done for the season.  They live in my neighbor’s yard.

I love this little fly that look like he/she is looking out over a vast expanse.
This hover fly says “hi” from a neighbor’s flower and looks nice with the iris photos. Amazing that these insects were out in the cold!

March came and then left like a lamb this year with unseasonably warm temperatures that averaged around 20 degrees F above normal, little precipitation, and setting at least one record breaking day for heat.  February was also well above normal average temperatures.

Pollinators and Passings 10/23/14

“There is a vitality, a life force, an energy, a quickening that is translated through you into action, and because there is only one of you in all time, this expression is unique. And if you block it, it will never exist through any other medium and will be lost.”

October 23, 2013 sigThursday, October 23, 2014 –  Today was very sad because one of my kitties crossed the Rainbow Bridge.  He was one of my special needs cats and his seizure condition was getting worse and starting to cause him pain. After having my old black cat put down a few weeks ago, it has been a sad October.  It is the 23rd day of the month long poetry challenge and I have photos of a hoverfly and a honeybee.  RIP Dorzie (this very next photo was taken at the end of 2012).  I was very blessed to have him in my life and he was a super sweet and kind soul.  He was the friend of everyone he met and despite having grand mal seizures when he slept and feline cerebellar hyperplasia (like the cat in the video at the top of this post) was a happy fellow and an ambassador cat (F3 Savannah).

Poetry and Pollinators 10/7/14

“The tears I feel today
I’ll wait to shed tomorrow.
Though I’ll not sleep this night
Nor find surcease from sorrow.
My eyes must keep their sight:
I dare not be tear-blinded.
I must be free to talk
Not choked with grief, clear-minded.
My mouth cannot betray
The anguish that I know.
Yes, I’ll keep my tears til later:
But my grief will never go.”

October 7, 2013 sigTuesday, October 7, 2014 – Fall can be a melancholy time when you know the sunshine will be giving way to colder days.  I am seeing fewer and fewer pollinators and most of the ones I see are honeybees out gathering before the cold sets in.  Today I was lucky and saw one native bee and a flower fly.  The wasps are pretty needy now around the hummingbird feeders as their days grow close to an end.  Today is the seventh day of the month long poetry challenge and the prompt is “silence”.
