Sunshine for Honeybees and Apache Plume 1/31/15

1:31:15 cute sigWe spend January 1 walking through our lives, room by room, drawing up a list of work to be done, cracks to be patched. Maybe this year, to balance the list, we ought to walk through the rooms of our lives… not looking for flaws, but for potential.

January 31, 2014Saturday, January 31, 2015 – The sun came out and it was mild enough for the ladies to venture forth from the hive for some water.  The Apache plume looked pretty in the sunshine as did the hawthorn berries against the blue sky and Wasatch mountains.  As January wraps up with a sunny day, I wonder how February will be?

Winter Feast for Birds 1/25/15

Flashback – Wednesday, January 25, 2012 – These are the hawthorn berries that birds love to get drunk on. The berries freeze then ferment on the tree. It is quite the site to see drunken birds staggering around and falling off of front porch steps.

January 25, 2013 sigFlashback – Saturday, January 25, 2014I took my pictures late this afternoon and this was one of the last when the sun was going down 🙂
January 25, 2014Sunday, January 25, 2015 – The birds came to feast on remaining hawthorn berries and I saw finches, robins, starlings, doves, chickadees and others.  Today is the first day I am starting to work with a new camera.  After literally thousands of photos, the camera I’ve been using has been wearing out.  It is not dead yet, but I now have a new one that will increase my potential and also give me the opportunity to learn more about photography 🙂

January 22, 2014Thursday, January 22, 2015 – Today was sunny and I decided to capture some images of the hawthorn berries before they all got eaten by birds.  The neighbors’ Buddha that I like to take photos of happens to sit underneath the hawthorn tree 🙂

Sunshine on Hawthorn Berries and Weeping Atlas Cedar1/7/15

“As the years pass, I am coming more and more to understand that it is the common, everyday blessings of our common everyday lives for which we should be particularly grateful. They are the things that fill our lives with comfort and our hearts with gladness — just the pure air to breathe and the strength to breath it; just warmth and shelter and home folks; just plain food that gives us strength; the bright sunshine on a cold day; and a cool breeze when the day is warm.”
~ Laura Ingalls Wilder

January 7, 2012 sigFlashback – Monday, January 7, 2013 – This is today’s sun in late afternoon before it pretty much disappeared in the clouds. I think these are starlings that are flying by.
January 7, 2013 sigFlashback – Tuesday, January 7, 2014 –  was happy to get this quick shot of a large flock of geese heading north along the Jordan River 🙂
January 7, 2014 sigWednesday, January 7, 2015 – Though the air is polluted, as seen in the first photo at the top of a peek at one of the peaks in the Wasatch Mountains, the sun was shining on my neighbors’ hawthorn berries and my other neighbor’s weeping Atlas cedar.  I discovered two types of cones on the weeping Atlas cedar.

November 16, 2013 sigSunday, November 16, 2014 – Today was cold, clear, and sunny with a chilly breeze.  The first photo at the very top is of the Ratibida columnifera.  This flower is also known as the upright prairie coneflower and the Mexican hat.  Here it is without petals and going to seed.  A few of the aspens still have leaves and my neighbor’s hawthorn is full of berries.
