March 20, 2013 sigThursday, March 20, 2014 – Happy Eostara!  I celebrated the day with my some of my family.  They took me to the local aviary for a lovely adventure and photos of birds.  This is a southern lapwing.  They are a type of plover and the northern variety is the bird that helped launched the folktales about the Easter Bunny.  Lapwings lay their eggs in nests on the ground that resemble the forms used by hares.  When people saw the lapwing eggs and also baby hares in nests that looked alike, they thought the hares hatched from the eggs.
